IDes 3605 Interior Design Studio V (4 credits), offered spring semester only


Prerequisite: Completion of IDes 3606 Interior Design Studio VI with a minimum grade of C-.


Course Description

Advanced interior design projects dealing with small to medium scale spaces. Emphasis on residential design for special needs populations, affordability, and sustainable design.


Course Objectives

  • Develop the skills needed to develop creative and functional design solutions for special populations with specific needs, e.g., children, elderly, or low income immigrant groups.
  • Continue to improve competency in the following areas: programming and concept development; plan development and analysis; application of design elements and principles to the design of interior spaces.
  • Develop a total designed environment, integrated into its context.
  • Improve professional presentations and representation.
  • Apply technical information learned in previous courses; apply codes and regulations as appropriate to the projects; become familiar with interior finish work, materials, joinery, and methods of construction.
  • Plan, draft, and detail a set of working drawings.
