IDes 4616 Sustainable Design for Commercial Interiors (3 credits), offered spring semester only

 

Prerequisite: For UMN Students, IDes 2613 or permission of instructor; for design practitioners, permission of instructor

 

Course Description

The course focuses on preparing interior designers and architects to integrate sustainable design into their design practices by working with Sustainable Design for Commercial Interiors standards.  LEED AP faculty will assist students by discussing the intent, requirements, submittals, and potential technologies and strategies to achieve sustainable standards in existing, new construction, or tenant improvement projects.  Students will complete a design project and submittal materials using sustainable guidelines.

 

Course Objectives                     

  • Identify design criteria required for LEED ® Green Associates and LEED ID+C standards for new or existing office environments,        including tenant improvement.
  • Determine balance between sustainability and designing for human behavior.             
  • Develop project materials to reflect LEED ID+C standards required for submission.
  • Understand the intent, requirements, submittals, and potential technologies and strategies to achieve sustainable design standards.
